Living in the States really instilled in me how you should never judge a book by its cover-ESPECIALLY when it comes food. Some of the smallest, local dive joints, hole in the wall, off the beaten path food establishments, usually have some of the most delicious food! And that’s one thing that remains to be true here, in the beautiful islands of the Bahamas: It’s about the food. Case in point: Pepper Pot Ambiance: Located in end, left corner unit, Pepper Pot is adjacent to a gas station ⛽️ and tire repair shop on East Sunrise Highway. & to the right of Pepper Pot is a barber shop 💈 and a few other businesses. A few doors down from the barber shop, a liquor store. Talk about one stop shop plaza, Lolol! Back to Pepper Pot. You’ll notice the hella authentic, Nassau/Compton, California bars on the establishment. Don’t let that throw you off, Pepper Pot is an all night, beast of a restaurant (pre covid curfew hours) so that seems legit for an 24 hour spot. Covid Measures: Masks are required to order and pick up food. Big yessi for them enforcing that. & yes, you can call ahead to order (which I highly recommend if you’re in a rush). If you’re pretty chill with time to kill, go to Pepper Pot and order to get the full experience. They have a few benches for you to sit and wait, but most folks just walk up and order, grab a drink and sit in their cars to wait for their order to be called. That way you can enjoy an ice cold Vitamalt or bottled water while you wait. Speaking of waiting: Wait time: 15 minutes Lunch Rush Wait Time: Ya better call ahead and have a few extra minutes to spare. Pepper Pot is the spot & I’ve experienced them peak times and off peak times. I now stick with the latter, lol. But, packed parking lots and longer wait times (expected during high order times) is a sure sign, a really good sign, that the food is legit and delicious. My Go To Fave: The single serving Chicken in da bag. They get it right...every.single.time. It comes out piping hot in that brown paper bag. The flavours are on point and you get a ton of food for the price you are paying for. It is absolutely worth it price wise and taste wise. I had to eventually put myself on a chicken in the bag timeout-it’s that good. They ask if you want ketchup and hot sauce: the answer is heck yes. Extra! IYKYK

I was working for a Cruiseline and our ship was in dry dock for 30 days. That gave us plenty of Time to explore Freeport. We befriended a taxi-van driver who went by the name “Scooby”. If you find him, he’s the best. Anyway, my friends and I were on our way back to the ship one evening and we asked Scooby where the locals eat late at night. He took us to Pepper Pot and told us we had to try chicken in a bag. When we pulled up to Pepper Pot we noticed it was a small place but it was bustling and the staff were super friendly. Of course, we ordered chicken in a bag. We even bought an order for Scooby. Again, he was awesome. So, chicken in a bag is just that...a ton of chicken, hot and juicy, WITH THE FRIES IN THE BAG. I don’t even know what seasoning was on the chicken but it was AWESOME. Pepper Pot is so good that we probably went at least 7-10 times while we were docked. We even got the rest of our team (3-4 van loads) to all come and join us one night. Truly a great place and for me a memorable experience. I have pics somewhere so when I can, I’ll post them.

Food is usually very good. Today, the Jerk chicken today was not up to mark. The rice was hard (pot cakeish) as if scraped from the bottom of the pot and the meal was cold.

They have GREAT SERVICE and GREAT PRICES. They also gives tons of food. The lady who cooks the chicken is a master at work. Pepper Pot is nothing but a W
